Designed for Louisiana State University, Nicholson Gateway is a 7-building campus extension bringing 1,525 beds to the university. The design process engaged all levels of campus administration and we collaborated with local architects and stake-holders to create a contemporary take on LSU’s distinctive Spanish-revival campus style. The 7 buildings incorporated multiple building types, including Type IIIA and VA wood construction, and Type IA concrete podiums. These complex building systems created unique accessibility and code challenges. Mastering code, building construction, and managing a large team became essential to this project’s success.
